Idli is considered as an easy to digest meal. It is also one of the healthiest meals and can be modified using a variety of vegetables. Carrot Idli Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of Idli Batter
  • 1 Carrot
  • 1 Green chilli
  • 1 teaspoon of Sunflower oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves as required
  • 1/2 teaspoon of minced Ginger

The equipment used for making the carrot idli includes a glass mixing bowl along with a Dhokla & Idli steamer with the plates. You can also use mint in place of fresh coriander leaves. You can crush peppercorns in place of green chillies to improve the idli nutritional value. If you are looking for something spicy, you can grind it along with green chilli. To bring in more flavor, you can grind the onion or jeera for more flavor.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Pour your prepared idli batter in a large vessel. Mix the batter properly to remove the air bubbles. If you feel the need for it, add some salt to improve the taste of the batter.
  • Remember to keep the consistency of the batter thick for making the idlis. But it should also be of pouring consistency. Add some water until you get the desired thickness.
  • Now mix it well before adding coriander leaves. The batter is now ready to make the best of idlis.
  • Grease the idli maker plates with oil and place a half a tablespoon of grated carrot in each of the plates.
  • Add the red chilli powder according to the level of spiciness that your family desires and sprinkle some water over the idli plates.
  • Steam it for a period of twelve to fourteen minutes. Now turn off the heat.
  • Wait for the idlis to cool down for 5 minutes before removing them from the plates.
  • Remove each of the idlis carefully using a spoon to prevent it from breaking.

Your carrot idlis are ready to be devoured! You can serve the idlis warm with chutney or sambar.
